2-9 giugno 2018

Check-out sabato 9 giugno entro h. 12.00

2-9 June, 2018

A week in the Dolomites, from Saturday to Saturday – to experience the joy of cycling, an all-round sports activity which promotes a good psycho-physical balance and is both fun and suitable for all participants. The constant smooth rhythm of pedalling helps create positive thoughts and a positive mind helps cyclists pedal better. This magical combination, which we call cycling mindfulness, comes after having practiced on a regular basis. Neither impossible to achieve nor exhausting, all it takes is a methodical approach, some free time, persistence and regular practice.

Bike Fitness Week is an intensive racing bike starter-course to learn how to pedal and manage fatigue. Following on from the courses held in and around Milan comes the idea of a training week between Val Pusteria and the Belluno Dolomites – seven days of cycling in the majestic Alpine range.

From 2 to 9 June, cyclists will stay at of one of the finest guesthouses in the east of the Val Pusteria valley in the small town of Villabassa – the Kneipp wellness village, offering several things to try “beyond the bike” from Kneipp hydrotherapy sessions to the typical local cuisine.

Cycling mindfulness. What else!

We’ll explain the fundamentals of how to sit comfortably on a saddle with the aim of getting to pedal some 72 kilometres over three hours, while learning to better manage your energy and the fatigue that comes with it. We explain the art of round pedalling, how to deal with uphill climbs, the correct use of the bike’s gears and the perfect balance that cycling helps to establish between the body and the mind. Cyclists will learn how to get by in the event of a puncture and about other related topics such as correct nutrition, some basic mechanical rudiments, how to dress, what to take with you on your bike ride and about safety on the roads. Cycling in groups will also be explained, as well as how to ride and control the bike, and how to choose the bike that best suits your needs.

There are two course levels: “athletic beginners” and “advanced beginners” allowing cyclists to participate in group outings over more demanding distances, reaching the threshold of 90-100km with medium difficulty climbs, and 7-9km climbs with an average gradient of over 6-7%. More challenging distances are to be cycled at a steadier and calmer pace.

By no means an impossible goal to reach – being in the Dolomites is both stimulating and beneficial. Wearing appropriate clothing and footwear, a reasonably fit adult is able to ride a modern efficient racer on a flat surface at a pace of 20-22km per hour with relative ease. In two to three hours, a distance of between 50 and 60 kilometres can easily be covered.

A good racing bike is the ideal choice to participate, or a good level hybrid with tires suitable for tarmac roads, even with mountain-bike handlebars. For those who don’t own a racing bike but are curious to try, there will be the possibility of hiring both racing bikes and pedal assisted ones (electric/throttle).

The meeting is scheduled to commence at mid-day on Saturday, 2 June at the Adler Gasthaus at Villabassa for check-in and the first afternoon test-tour and to organize cycling groups for the remaining days.

The last day of cycling is on Friday, 8 June. Check-out is by mid-day on Saturday, June 9th.
